On May 4th, 2025, the GreenGLAM project was GreenGLAM-Projekt proudly presented at the CHNT30 Conference on Cultural Heritage and New Technologies in Vienna by Lyndon Nixon from MODUL Technology GmbH. The talk, “Revealing Heritage Collections’ Relevance to the SDGs through Web Intelligence and Virtual Data Sculptures,” invited participants to explore how digital innovation and artificial intelligence can strengthen the connection between cultural heritage and the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

During the presentation, Lyndon showcased how GreenGLAM helps Galleries, Libraries, Archives, and Museums (GLAMs) uncover the sustainability stories hidden within their collections. By analysing public sources such as news articles, social media, and museum content, GreenGLAM identifies how cultural heritage is already being linked to sustainability topics. This knowledge can support institutions in shaping their own communications, outreach, and educational activities.

A highlight of the session was the introduction of the GreenGLAM Dashboard — a dynamic web interface that visualises associations between GLAMs, their collections, and the 17 SDGs. Through visual analytics, users can explore which sustainability themes resonate most strongly in public discussions around heritage.

The audience was also introduced to the concept of Virtual Data Sculptures — immersive, Augmented Reality (AR)experiences that translate data into 3D visual stories. Visitors can scan a QR code to see how a museum’s collection or exhibition connects to specific SDGs, bringing the link between culture and sustainability vividly to life.

GreenGLAM’s participation at CHNT30 sparked lively discussion about the potential of AI and data visualization to make cultural heritage not only more accessible, but also more meaningful in today’s sustainability-focused world.
